Transy Library and your coworkers rely on you to be on time for every shift, to stay for the duration of your shift, and to communicate with us about your scheduling needs ahead of time. Procedures for when you need to miss work are below.
If you need to miss work due to illness or an emergency:
Call or email Lori Bird (supervisor) before your shift starts and as soon as humanly possible with your reason.
Post to GroupMe, if you are able. You do not have to share details.
Touch base with a supervisor when you return to work so that we can fill you in on anything you might have missed.
Be prepared to bring a doctor’s note if you have several absences due to illness on your record.
If you need to miss work for a non-emergency:
Message or email Lori Bird (supervisor) in advance with your reason. Our preference is one week ahead.
If your schedule change is approved, use LibStaffer, our scheduling software, to give up your shift. You will not be able to give up your shift with less than 24 hours of notice.
Post your request to GroupMe and try to arrange a swap. Reach out directly to the people you work with through email, GroupMe, text, etc. in order to find someone who can cover for you.
Remember, unless Lori (supervisor) tells you that the absence is approved, it will be considered an unexcused absence.
If you have an excused absence, you may make up the time to be paid for missed work.
In order to maintain accountability for attendance and to make sure our desk is staffed and fully functional at all open hours, we use a three strikes warning system.
The following will result in a warning on your record:
Having an unexcused absence. An absence is considered unexcused when one fails to show up for a shift without obtaining prior approval from a supervisor, posting the shift on LibStaffer, and giving a notice of 24 hours.
Leaving the desk unattended during your shift
Leaving before your shift is complete
Arriving late
Warnings remain on your record for one academic year. Warnings on your record for a given academic year will affect your annual evaluation and may affect your eligibility for certain privileges here at the library. If you earn three warnings in a given academic year, you will be released from your position.
