Transy Library and your coworkers rely on you to be on time for every shift, to stay for the duration of your shift, and to communicate with us about your scheduling needs ahead of time. Procedures for when you need to miss work are below.
If you need to miss work due to illness or an emergency:
Call or email a supervisor on duty before your shift starts and as soon as humanly possible.
Reach out to people you know who work here to cover for you.
Touch base with a supervisor when you return to work so that we can fill you in on anything you might have missed.
Be prepared to bring a doctor’s note if you have several absences due to illness on your record.
If you need to miss work for an event:
Use LibStaffer, our scheduling software, to post your shift at least one week before the date you need to miss.
Reach out to the people you work with through email, GroupMe, text, etc. in order to find someone who can cover for you.
Talk to a supervisor who works during your shift about it.
Remember that unless a supervisor tells you that the absence is approved, it will be considered as an unexcused absence.
If you have an excused absence, you may make up the time to be paid for missed work.
In order to maintain accountability for attendance and to make sure our desk is staffed and fully functional at all open hours, we use a three strikes warning system.
The following will result in a warning on your record:
Having an unexcused absence. An absence is considered unexcused when one fails to show up for a shift without obtaining prior approval from a supervisor, posting the shift on LibStaffer, and giving a notice of 24 hours.
Leaving the desk unattended during your shift
Leaving before your shift is complete
Arriving late
Warnings remain on your record for one academic year. Warnings on your record for a given academic year will affect your annual evaluation and may affect your eligibility for certain privileges here at the library. If you earn three warnings in a given academic year, you will be released from your position.
