Active Learning Classroom: Tassie Active Learning Classroom

Provides information about the library's active learning classroom and resources on active learning.

Tassie Active Learning Classroom

Carolyn Tassie

Carolyn, who was active in library leadership state-wide,

served as the Public Services Librarian at Transylvania

University from 1986-2009 and was instrumental in building the

library's instruction program. She kept student learning and

education at the center of all her efforts so the creation of this

classroom in her name is a wonderful way to remember her.

In addition to her career at Transylvania University, Carolyn

worked to build library services throughout Kentucky. She

served as the President of the Kentucky Library Association

(KLA) in 1999-2000 and on the Kentucky Virtual Library

Resource Sharing (ILL) Subcommitee. Her peers recognized

her with the 2004 KLA Outstanding Academic Librarian Award

and the 2009 KLA Lifetime Achievement Award.

Tassie Active Learning Center

Created through a generous gift from Tim Tassie in memory of librarian and educator Carolyn Tassie, this classroom is a student-centered learning environment that supports active learning practices with flexible space, collaborative technology, and more.

The Carolyn Tassie Active Learning Classroom is located in room 006 on the bottom floor of the library. The Active Learning Classroom's layout and furniture are designed to seat a total of 24 students in table configurations optimized for small-group work and content sharing from multiple student devices.

How to Reserve

Faculty may reserve library classrooms for faculty-led instruction for a single instance (not for an entire semester) using Ad Astra.

Priority is given to librarian-led instruction sessions during weeks 4-6 in Winter Semesters and weeks 3-5 in Fall Semesters.

Requests for faculty-led sessions outside of these categories for dates before March 15/October 15 will be considered on an individual basis depending on availability.
