Judy Gaines Young Book Award: 2017

What is it?

Generously funded by Dr. Byron Young (Transylvania University class of 1961) to honor his late wife Judy Gaines Young (’62), the Judy Gaines Young Book Award is annually presented by Transylvania University to the author of a book of distinction from the Appalachian region published in the previous year.  The winning writer will be invited to visit Transylvania to receive the award and to give a public reading.

These books are the semi-finalists for the first Judy Gaines Young Book Award.  Nominated by prominent writers and other friends of literature in Kentucky and surrounding states, they represent some of the best work published in the Appalachian region.

Amy Greene served as the judge this year.
