Transylvania University Judy Gaines Young Book Award: About

The Judy Gaines Young Book Award is annually presented by Transylvania University to the author of a book of distinction from the Appalachian region.

What is it?

Generously funded by Dr. Byron Young (Transylvania University class of 1961) to honor his late wife Judy Gaines Young (’62), the Judy Gaines Young Book Award is annually presented by Transylvania University to the author of a book of distinction from the Appalachian region in the previous two to three years.  The winning writer will be invited to visit Transylvania to receive the award and to give a public reading.

Nominated by prominent writers and other friends of literature in Kentucky and surrounding states, the finalists for this award represent some of the best work published in the Appalachian region.
